Different Kind of COVID-19 Victim

Job seekers are screwed if something happens right now to their documents proving they can work. Imagine due to a fluke of circumstances, a new hire’s documents for the I9 are lost or destroyed, say through an act of God. They try to get replacements but find vital records, passport services, and the SSA are all closed until further notice due to COVID-19. And no temporary relaxing of the law due to COVID-19. It’s a perfect storm of unconstitutionally screwing law-abiding citizens because of past corporate greed. Getting a job right now is a rarity and employers don’t have to be patient in waiting for a new employee to attain replacement docs. Sure, one could pay for multiple copies and documents just in case. But why should it be necessary? It certainly seems unconstitutional to force workers to repeatedly prove their citizenship just to live when the federal government already knows they are eligible to work - all while the government could have, but does not have, option...

Letter to Reps 16 April 2020

I hope you're truly interested in your constituents' opinions - some of us are more educated and more truthful than those in charge of giving us advice regarding this pandemic. We will tell you like it is and most of us are apolitical. I hope you'll listen and have a desire to learn more on your own. Did you know the UMN also found (many weeks ago) that the  COVID-19 virus (SARS-CoV2)  hangs in the air from just breathing - one doesn't have to have symptoms to spread it? Think about that for a moment and let it sink in while you contemplate all the people you've encountered who were closer than 6 feet. Did you ever breathe any of the air others exhaled into over the previous hour or so? Now consider how long an infected person can spread the virus by merely breathing, without knowing it. The COVID-19 virus has a long incubation period (the time between first being infected and first showing symptoms). During that time one can walk around for days (up to 12 da...

Counter viewpoint...

If this wasn't a SARS virus from China and was rather the flu, would we have shut down the U.S. economy? Much of what I read so far is that on average, the U.S. has hit the peak of this pandemic. Let's assume the end of the pandemic bell curve is as long as the beginning (instead of usually being shorter), so the numbers will double before it's over. That would be 1,115,180 confirmed cases and 44,218 deaths. Let's just assume any precision loss in reporting is the same for the flu and COVID-19. Let's look at the flu numbers (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html). The average number of deaths due to the flu over the last 10 years has been around 37,000 per year (estimated 61,000 for last year). Cannot compare the case count between the flu and COVID-19 because though the flu had supposedly infected between 9,500,000 and 45,000,000 people per annum, very few are confirmed cases. With COVID-19 the numbers we see are confirmed cases. So let's assume...

Shhh! I See COVID-19 Spreaders - And They Don't Know They're Spreading

Wearing Face Masks Trends Upwards

Image
I've been seeing more and more people wearing masks out at the different stores. Most of them are homemade with unknown effectiveness, but at least it seems to be trending upward. They are most effective at stopping one's breath and spreading the virus. Who knows - any one of them could be a superspreader. 3D printed masks have now been approved by the FDA. https://governmentciomedia.com/fda-approves-first-3d-printed-mask-covid-19-support The mask I wear my son printed at home and has a small piece of a 1900 microparticle performance rating HVAC filter I bought at Lowes. This will at least shut down two viral entry points, but if I catch it, at least I won't spread it before I know it. My family and I only go out and about when we need to so we are practicing social distancing as much as possible. But my point is this trend should have been promoted by "the experts" as soon as possible. America got creative but it took too many de...

Ionizers May Kill Coronovirus

I just read an article about healthcare workers' mental health and thought I might dust off my psychotherapy books and volunteer to help. I had after all studied psychotherapy at the graduate and doctoral levels. My focus was on the psychological application in team and corporate settings, so I don't practice mental healthcare. But if I could just listen and maybe tell them what I do or would do maybe I can help. As I thought on this, I realized if I did this I could be exposing myself to COVID-19, so I’d have to figure out how to limit exposure. My thoughts first were to come up with some barrier, but I wouldn’t think a physical barrier would lend well to psychotherapy. My next thought was an invisible barrier of sorts between me and the client, such as an ion stream of cold air coming out of the ceiling and falling to the floor. I don’t know anything about its effect on viruses, but I was surprised to learn it has an effect on viruses. Note the artic...

Everyone Should Wear a Face Mask

COVID-19 Spreads Like the Measles

Regarding news stories, some have commented about what one believes versus another. I wish it was that simple. Unfortunately, the truth is more the flip of that. It’s not about what one is willing to believe as much as it is about their vulnerability to media persuasion. All media is biased to report controversy by the nature of their for-profit business, and thanks in part to pioneer Dan Rather and later influence from abroad, a new era of spin and news synthesis began. But it is much worse than that now, confirmed more than once by inter-university research. The result has been a remaking of reporting and a redefinition of ethics, including abusing the public’s right to know into the journalist’s right to persuade. The media has become magicians of persuasion, perhaps overcome by the lure of its power. After all, we are wired to easily believe what we think everyone believes – a phenomenon of human nature that gives mass communication its power of persuasion. I recently read an inte...

Cognitive Ease Contributes to Spread

I just realized that maybe many media editors want this pandemic to go on for as long as possible. Why not, this news is bigger than Y2K! Anyone else sick of the media? I just read another news report sharing a study that showed the particles will float in the air for hours before falling. Then they talk to someone else who claims that won't happen because when people sneeze or cough those droplets are heavy and fall too fast. That statement automatically causes cognitive ease in readers to think it isn't airborne. But it is. It's like these reporters look for that "expert" who'll say such things, who probably don't know this virus spreads much like Rubeola, the Measles virus. It spreads through the air - from the breath of infected people who are asymptomatic - they are not coughing or sneezing yet. The Measles is considered the most infectious disease because it can hang in the air that got there from infected people merely brea...

Advice Backfired

What was I saying from the beginning?

Note to President Trump

President Trump: If you want to bring this pandemic to a screeching halt, stimulate the face mask industry and have everyone wear a facemask when not at home. It's that simple. It will work, the evidence supports it. How much more do people have to suffer? How much more damage do we allow to happen? For WWII we banned together and produce small and monstrous mechanisms of war in unfathomable short order. Couldn't we also manufacture billions of facemasks in a short period of time? They just have to be basic. Whether your theory is the virus is transmitted from surfaces only (debunked theory) or surfaces and the air (substantiated theory) - or surfaces, air and food (most likely), everyone wearing facemasks in addition to handwashing/sanitization will end this crisis. Sick people (people with symptoms) staying home, all the handwashing/sanitizing - and even all the social distancing will not stop the spread - has not. Add facemask wearing; done! When I look at p...

COVID-19 Symptoms Can Be Mild and Dangerous

I watched a video made by an older couple, passengers on the diamond princess. Hopefully, this helps elucidate the mismatch that can happen between medical practice and reality. Medical doctors are merely experts at the practice of medicine, but if that practice fails the situation, medical doctors often lack the depth of training and experience to know what to do otherwise. Often, the best a doctor can do is express confidence in medical practice and protocols, and otherwise, detach him or herself in the hope you fall into the statistics of a good prognosis. If you’re lucky you have a doctor that is paying close attention, isn’t too limited by functional fixedness, and is adept at researching using Medline and other medical databases. Or they are quick to consult more experienced colleagues who are more capable to handle the outlying cases. The passenger couple (mostly the man) described in detail exactly how their symptoms went and how they felt. He started out ment...

Face Masks: Asia vs. U.S.A.

Seeing Japanese people wearing facemasks was a common thing the last time I visited Japan, 13 years ago. Those I saw wearing facemasks were in high enough frequency it was remarkable to me. The Japanese I worked with over there described wearing masks as a proven method to prevent spreading illness and their civic duty to wear them if they're ill. Today you'll see most Japanese wearing facemasks. Could that have contributed to why they have only one case of COVID-19 in every 120,500 people and 30% fewer deaths, while the U.S. has one case in every 12,325 people? We have only 2.6 times as many citizens in the U.S.A. but we have 26 times more geographically area than Japan, making them 10 times as densely populated, and that is conservative given most of the population is in less than half the area. And they have the 4th busiest airport in the world. My guess is if they required everyone and all visitors to wear facemasks, the case count would be significantly l...

CCP Virus?

Conspiracy Theory? I Won't Opine.

A possibility. Sometimes reality is far worse than the movies. For NCIS fans, remember Gibbs' Rule #39, there is no such thing as a coincidence? Well, it did come from Holywood. Then again, consider the following... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wuhan_Institute_of_Virology Wuhan BSL-4 lab is claimed to just having started production in 2003 (if we trust the Chinese narrative), the same year SARS first appeared in China (SARS and MERS were coronaviruses, which is why this one is called "novel"). Interesting how a coronavirus outbreak happened just before the 2004 incumbent Republican Presidential election, and once again (but much worse) before the 2020 incumbent Republican Presidential election. What can we expect in another 4 or 8 years? I guess we should all vote Democrat to avoid another and maybe worse, coronavirus outbreak. But, I'm sure it's just coincidence. Of course, the story we want to hear is that the v...

Liberty or Safety?

The main reason I spent 22 years of my life in military service was to defend our freedoms. But what I don't appreciate is a government taking drastic steps beyond the powers of the constitution to destroy our freedoms (even though I guess we can expect that from California, Chicago, and NY politics.) Some people do advocate such drastic measures, perhaps as a means of erring on the side of caution. If that's the way to go, we should lower the speed limit to no more than 45 mph on the highways, and no more than 30 mph everywhere else. We should make alcoholic beverages illegal. We should have no more privacy so we can stop crimes before they happen. Maybe we should also make it illegal to have more than one-or-two kids and force abortions for those trying to have more. So many things we could do that make our country safer. But at what expense? In a perfect world, such power would be yielded appropriately. But in this world, it seldom is. All of you probably h...
